Why did United keep Continental logo?
The United Continental moniker was one of a number of compromises reached when Continental and United came together in 2010. While Continental was the stronger company financially, United was larger and better known globally. The merged carrier kept the latter's name but adopted the Continental branding.
The airline's final corporate rebranding before it merged with Continental Airlines came in 2004, in the form of the 'Rising Blue' livery. This was also known as the 'Blue Tulip,' and saw its paint scheme switch to a blue (below the windows) and white (above them) fuselage.
In 1974, United's aircraft began wearing a livery with a new logo known as the 'Tulip. ' This scheme was designed by Saul Bass, and featured on planes such as the Boeing 727. 19 years later, in 1993, United decided that it was time for another rebrand.
On March 31, 2013, United and Continental merged into a single airline. The integration of the two airlines was structured so that Continental would be the surviving corporate entity and a wholly owned subsidiary of UAL Corporation. Continental then changed its name to United Airlines, Inc.
The goal of the livery redesign is to convey the identity of a “modernized aircraft.” The updated design is a visual representation of United's ongoing brand evolution while staying true to the history it has developed over the past 93 years.
One of the main reasons of Continental's failure was its notoriously bad product. Old aircrafts with differently colored seats, severe delays even in short haul flights, bad food, and an unclean fleet and longer than the competition flying time were just few of the issues Greg and Gordon faced.

The United Airlines tulip logo was designed in 1974 by Saul Bass, best known as the designer of film posters and opening title sequences including Psycho, North by Northwest, and The Man with the Golden Arm.
In 1979, Texas International Airlines created the first frequent-flyer program that used mileage tracking to give 'rewards' to its passengers, while in 1980 Western Airlines created its Travel Bank, which ultimately became part of Delta Air Lines' program upon their merger in 1987.
