I’m pretty much the biggest cheerleader ever when it comes to San Diego International Airport (SAN). It’s been my home for over 20 years now, and if you’d let me, I’d bend your ear off telling you all the ways that it’s more awesome than *your* home airport. It’s small enough to be easy (and fast) to navigate, but large enough to warrant daily 747-400 service to London. However, I am humble enough to admit that San Diego airport lounges are not nearly as nice (and swanky) as other domestic US airport lounges. This may be a really nice place

However, I am humble enough to admit that San Diego airport lounges are not nearly as nice (and swanky) as other domestic US airport lounges.. At the time of this writing, there are only 3 lounges at the San Diego airport: the United Club , the Delta Sky Club , and the Airspace Lounge .. Notice the unfortunate lack of lounges over in Terminal 1… A small but very stylish lounge located on the mezzanine level in Terminal 2 west, the United Club is a decent place to hang out before a flight – assuming you arrive before the crowds do (which is often).. The Airpsace lounge is San Diego Airport’s most spacious lounge, but I’d argue that it offers the least in terms of peace and quiet (and food). It’s better to eat before you arrive, because this is the extent of all the complimentary food they offer.A quick look at some of the seating options in the Airspace lounge.. Location of the Delta Sky Club in Terminal 2 West. The entrance to the San Diego Delta Sky Club, just after turning right at the top of the escalator.. Location of the Airspace lougne in the corridoor between Terminal 2 West and East. From the Terminal 2 East security checkpoint, follow the same instructions I laid about above for the United Club and Sky Club: turn left towards the corridor leading to T2 West, but you don’t have to go far since the entrance to the Airspace lounge is located mid-way through.. Of the three lounges here at the San Diego airport, the Airspace lounge is probably the easiest to get into.. In my opinion, the best lounge the San Diego airport is the United Club.. Even though I dislike how small both the United Club and Sky Club are, the Airspace lounge has a lot going wrong for it.. Access 1300+ airport lounges worldwide with Priority Pass Access to over 1300 airport lounges around the world, regardless of airline flown or class of ticket.

Alaska Airlines Board Room are current in Seattle, Anchorage, Portland, and Los Angeles. With a growing presence in San Diego, San Diego is in need one too

In fact, San Diego actually offers more daily flights than San Francisco now, and San Francisco had an Alaska Airlines Board Room for years.. With the growth in San Diego, it would only make sense that Alaska opens a Board Room to attract more business travelers in San Diego.. Seattle234Los Angeles (LAX)71San Francisco (SFO)15Anchorage, Alaska42Portland, Ore.93 An Alaska Airlines Board Room at SAN makes sense as Alaska currently has as many or more flights than other legacy carriers at SAN.. Airline:Average Departure a day from SAN Jan 2014 Alaska/Horizon Air 21.4American Airlines 14.4Delta Air Lines 13.5Southwest 79.1United Airlines 23.9US Airways 10.7Not only would Alaska fliers benefit from a Alaska Airlines Board Room in San Diego, it would help Alaska win market share on their new route to Salt Lake City and keep market share on their current route to Seattle, Portland, and Orlando—all under attack by Delta and Southwest.. Furthermore, as all Alaska Airline lounges are part of Priority Pass and the Lounge Club network, an Alaska Board Room would also be accessible to Frontier Airline passengers starting this April and would provide more revenue and justification for this Board Room as the terminal becomes more crowded again.

See what the food, cabin and service is like when flying Alaska Airlines to Maui from San Diego

Alaska Airlines now departs from Terminal 2 East at San Diego International Airport, a huge improvement from Terminal 1 where the airline was previously based.. There is no Alaska Airlines lounge at SAN.. If you’re flying Alaska Airlines from San Diego, you’re typically on a 737-800 or 737-900.. As someone who is intrigued by airline food, I do like it on Alaska Airlines.. If seats are available 24 hours in advance, and often they aren’t, it costs (at the time of this writing) $150 each way to upgrade to first class from San Diego to Maui.

Another nice feature of AlaskaAir.com is the ability to pre-order meals in First class.. As expected on this pre-merger Alaska 739, the First class cabin was equipped with standard recliner seats in a 2-2 configuration.. On longer flights like this, tablets are provided free in First class and available for rent in Premium class and Main cabin.. Luckily, aside from this, the service is so friendly and attentive–both on board and on the ground–that I don't mind so much.. I enjoyed a mimosa and some nice views, as I waited for my turn.. Due to the baby situation, though, the FA offered to bring everything at once, which I appreciate.. View from the back.. Every FA came by to say hi and see the baby, and most even got to hold him.. Due to the long taxi for departure in San Diego, we landed about 10 minutes late.. We waited on board a bit after arriving at the gate.
