Can you see Denali from Savage Alpine trail?
Near the park entrance, you can get a view of Denali, but it looks tiny since it is so far away. In the Savage area, you are about 15 miles closer, but due to mountains in the foreground, you can't see much of Denali from the road. To see it, you need to climb up into the mountains next to the Savage River.

Savage River – As mentioned in my guide to hiking trails, you can see Denali from the Savage River Alpine Trail outlook (Mile 15). This is the farthest point in the park which you can drive to via private vehicles.

Most of Denali is trail-less, and long hikes are often on a route of your own choosing. If you are hiking up a rocky hill or mountain, be careful of your footing. More people die from falls than any other cause in the park. You should always hike with at least one other person.

Denali Bus Depot Parking
Two-thirds of the lot are sized for small cars, and one-third is sized for RVs or other large vehicles. Many area hotels have shuttles that bring their guests to the Denali Bus Depot, so inquire at your lodging if you want to avoid bringing a car to the park. There is no charge to park here.

Just 1 mile south of Talkeetna you'll get your first glimpse of Denali (Mt. McKinley). Across from the entrance to the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, there's a pull-out on the left with wonderful Denali views with the Susitna River and foothills in the foreground.
What type of bear species live in Denali? Black bears and brown grizzly bears inhabit Denali National Park. Research estimates that approximately 300–350 grizzlies roam the north side of the Alaska Range. It's thought that the south side has an even higher count thanks to the region's many salmon streams.
One of the first things I did upon arrival was buy bear spray, it is a MUST! Most car rental spots will give you some and all the backcountry huts we stayed in had extra but you should always carry it. Beyond that bring a bear bell and attach it to your backpack while hiking.

One day in Denali National Park is simply not enough. The park is huge, the park is wild, and there are so many things to do. If you have to shorten your trip into only one day, below are a variety of options so you can find the perfect Denali itinerary to make the most of your short time.
That said, the ideal number of days to spend in Denali National Park is 2-3 days. With at least two days, you'll have plenty of time to sample what the Denali area has to offer, and with a third day, you'll probably get to experience everything you want to.

There is only one road in Denali. Private vehicles can drive a small part of it, but most of the road is open only to bus traffic. Bus trips are available only in summer (mid-May through mid-September).
Visitors can use the shuttle to access hiking trails, picnic beside the river, or just enjoy the 2-hour round trip ride.
