Cabo Verde Airlines was established in 1958. In July 1975, following the independence of Cape Verde, the airline was designated as the national carrier and became a public (state-owned) company in 1983.
There are currently three airlines within Cabo Verde — Cabo Verde Airlines, Cabo Verde Connect Services and Transport Interlihas de Cabo Verde (TICV). Out of these three airlines, only TICV offers domestic flights within the country, with the other two offering international flights only.

Sea conditions around Cape Verde are sometimes dangerous. Take local advice before travelling by sea. Travel by sea to the southern islands of Fogo and Brava in particular can often be disrupted. Take care if you participate in water sports, swimming, boating and fishing.
Santo Antao is extremely safe. It is said that Santiago and Fogo less so, you must be somewhat careful in Praia (but no need for paranoia).

Tips at restaurants in Cape Verde are normally shared between the staff and the amount is based on what you think is deserved based on the service you receive. A small tip is always welcomed, a 5-10% tip is standard.
Pack a fleece and long trousers for the evenings. Take shorts for the daytime. The islands are very casual so we suggest that you pack as little as possible, but do include a pair of trainers and a day pack if you want to explore.
Most staff speak English, some are multi lingual. If they are from cape verde then they will speak creole and Portuguese as own languages.

As a preventative measure, you should abstain from eating fruit that has not been peeled and drinking tap water. When you buy drinking water, always check that the seal has not been tampered with because some Cape Verdeans don't take these things too seriously and have been found to refill bottles at times!
